Cordova-Lapu-Lapu bridge nears fruition
CEBU, Philippines — The planned “Cordova-Lapu-Lapu City Bridge” project now draws closer to be realized, as a capsule-laying ceremony was recently held at the Pilipog-Gabi Coastal Road in Cordova town.
The project involves the construction of a 30-meter pre-stressed concrete bridge connecting the Pilipog-Gabi causeway to the proposed Babag-Basak-Suba Basbas Bypass road.
Additionally, a 150-meter bypass road perpendicular to the bridge will also be built.
In an interview, Lapu-Lapu City Lone District Representative Cindi King-Chan said that this infrastructure project is funded with a P100-million budget secured by her office as one of her priority projects.
According to the city’s Public Information Office, the bridge itself will feature four lanes for vehicles, a bike lane on each side, and sidewalks for pedestrians. The bypass road will mirror this design.
In her speech during the capsule laying, King-Chan said this project will shorten travel time and provide a safe and comfortable riding experience for motorists and passengers alike.
“Gawas sa pagpamubo sa oras sa biyahe gikan diri sa Lapu-Lapu City paingon sa Cordova, kining taytayan makahatag usab og mas luwas ug mas komportable nga riding experience sa mga motorista ug sa mga pasahero," she said.
She also said that the project will help business as well as residents living in Lapu-Lapu City and those working in Cordova, as the bridge will enhance access to goods and services.
Meanwhile, Mayor Junard "Ahong" Chan expressed his heartfelt gratitude to the congresswoman—his wife—for her initiative and efforts in collating funds for the project, which he said would help decongest traffic in the nearby barangays.
“Salamat sa atong kugihan ug pinangga nga kongresista nga mao ang nangita og pundo aron maimplementar kining pag-connect sa Lapu-Lapu City ug sa Cordova, Cebu," he said.
The Chan couple led the capsule laying with Cordova Mayor Cesar Suan, Lapu-Lapu City Vice Mayor Celedonio Sitoy, Department of Public Works and Highways officials, and other city and town officials. (CEBU NEWS)
