Capitol turns over P125M projects to Argao

CEBU, Philippines — A total of P125 million worth of infrastructure were inaugurated by the Capitol recently in Argao town, including road concreting projects and installation of solar lights.

Gov. Gwen Garcia led the opening of the public phase I and II of Mompeller–Balaas Vegetable Highway Road located in Brgy. Linut-od.

The 3-kilometer phase I of the Mompeller-Balaas Vegetable Highway Road was completed after 171 days, which cost the Provincial government P41.3 million.

The phase II, which measures a little over a quarter of a kilometer, was completed in 41 days with a budget allocation of P4.8 million.

In a report posted by Sugbo News, the official Facebook page of the Capitol, it stated that the highway is aimed at strengthening the farm-to-market road program of the Cebu Provincial Government so that farmers around the area have access to a decent road network.

Garcia also led the inauguration of the newly completed phase II of Catang¬Lapay road section in Brgy. Catang. The Capitol allocated P35.3 million for the infrastructure project that has a total length of 2.6 kilometers.

Phase I of the said project was opened in January 2021 providing better access to residents going to and from the neighboring barangays.

Garcia also opened to the public the newly completed Phase II of Canbanua–Jomgao–Panadtaran road section where the provincial government spent P24.1 million for these road networks that traverses three barangays, namely: Canbanua, Jomgao, and Panadtaran.

The road section serves as an alternative route going to the national highway, helping ease the traffic congestion along the main road. In July 2023, the first phase of the project was completed and inaugurated.

Also inaugurated was the concreted road connecting barangays Mompeller and Balaas, which budget was at P8 million.

Garcia also inaugurated the new Multipurpose Covered Court of Brgy Tabayag, which the Capitol funded at the total cost of P3.6 million.

The facility offers a spacious, safe, and comfortable communal venue for residents of the barangay where they could gather for socio-cultural activities and for related purposes.

The governor also spearheaded the inauguration and blessing of a new 2-storey barangay hall in Brgy. Linut-od worth P2.8 million.

A community stage was also turned-over in Brgy. Poblacion where the Provincial government spent close to a million.

Garcia also inaugurated a significant safety enhancement project in Brgy. Sumaguan. This project includes 56 reinforced concrete lamppost pedestals with solar lights installed along the roads.

The Provincial government spent a little less than P300,000 for the project, which ensures the safety and convenience of residents at night, giving them well-lit streets in their neighborhood as an added deterrent to criminal activities and to reduce the likelihood of accidents.

Additionally, the Capitol hopes to use solar lighting as support for environmental sustainability efforts and to offer long-term cost savings on electricity.

Another P300,000 worth of solar-powered lamp posts were also inaugurated in Brgy. Langtad.

In the same barangay, Garcia inaugurated a new 1-barrel reinforced concrete box culvert that allows the free flow of water under the bridge, which the provincial government  spent P4 million.

Garcia, likewise, witnessed the signing of the Memorandum of Agreement between Barangay Linut-od, and the Vicente Sotto Memorial Medical Center for a community-based medical service program in the highland communities in the said town. — (FREEMAN)
