CEBU, Philippines — Six people were injured after two motorcycles, a Ceres bus, and a private car figured in an accident around 3 A.M. yesterday in the subway tunnel along Natalio Bacalso Avenue, Barangay Basak-San Nicolas, Cebu City.

The bus driver was identified as Petronilo Sarte Flores, 32, from Alambijud, Argao, while the driver of the Hyundai Accent was Brett Lois Abelgas Go, 26, of Camparville, Barangay Buhisan, Cebu City.

Go was with his passengers Crystal Mae Tan Yang, of Barangay Bulacao; Diane Therese Dolino, 26, of Barangay Pardo; and Jeshua Queer Tedait, 29, of Barangay Tisa, all in Cebu City.

The motorcycle riders were identified as Florito Montecillo Jr., 31, who was driving a Yamaha Aerox motorcycle; his passenger Baby Shane Garcia, 25, both residents of Sitio Paradise 2, Barangay Kinasang-an, Cebu City; and Ernest Canuto Socorro Larrobis, 53, of Poblacion Ward 1, Minglanilla, who was driving a Honda XRM.

Based on the investigation of the Traffic Enforcement Unit (TEU) of the Cebu City Police Office, before the accident happened Montecillo and Go were traveling towards Pardo, while Larrobis and the bus were heading to Mambaling.

Larrobis was ahead of the bus, but when he reached the tunnel Larrobis lost control of his motorcycle, causing him to fall and sprawl on the road.

In the bus, Flores noticed that Larrobis was lying on the road, and stepped on the brakes, but due to the slippery road he too lost control of the bus, which resulted in it blocking the other lane where it hit the vehicles driven by Montecillo and Go.

Montecillo and Garcia spilled from the motorcycle and were injured, while the Hyundai Accent sustained damage and the three passengers within also injured.

"Arrested nato ang Party B katong driver sa bus, naa sa atong opisina sa TEU...reckless imprudence resulting in physical injury and damage to property (possible case), for now wala pa sila ana (settlement)," said TEU chief Police Major Jonathan dela Cerna. — (FREEMAN)
