Council asks developer: Submit plan for Pond A

Iris Hazel Mascardo - The Freeman

CEBU, Philippines — The Cebu City Council has approved a resolution requesting the Expedition Construction Corp. (ECC) to submit the master development plan of Pond A and the redevelopment of the former landfill in Barangay Inayawan to the City Council.

It was last January 2022 when the Cebu City government and ECC entered into a Joint Venture Agreement (JVA) for the reclamation of Pond A and redevelopment of the former landfill in Barangay Inayawan.

The resolution filed by Councilor Rey Gealon stated that the ECC is expected to submit its master development plan by the end of the month or the first week of April this year.

“Once reclaimed and fully developed, Pond A and the former landfill can generate a total of 75 hectares of land... While it is unsure what infrastructure or business establishments will be built in the areas pending the master development plan, its development would certainly help in the improvement of the city,” his resolution read.

Gealon’s resolution further said that it is important that the master development plan be submitted to the City Council to determine the status of the plan and also to ascertain if the JVA has been complied with.

It was reported last October 16 that the City Council requested the Office of the Mayor and the other concerned offices to submit a status report on the JVA.

This came after a privilege speech by Councilor Mary Ann delos Santos exactly a week following the appearance of Mayor Michael Rama during their October 4 session.

The council also approved the motion of Councilor Nestor Archival for the creation of an ad hoc committee that would come up with recommendations regarding the JVA.

It was also reported that the JVA was signed on Jan. 27, 2022, but the project has not started after over a year already. (CEBU NEWS)
