Cop nabbed for raping his minor daughter

Adelyn Landiza - The Freeman

CEBU, Philippines — A police officer was arrested in Barangay Langub, Asturias, Cebu last Tuesday, March 19, after he was accused of raping his minor daughter on several occasions.

Police Major Windell Abellana, public information officer of Cebu Police Provincial Office (CPPO), said the arrest was prompted by a complaint filed by the victim and her mother. The Freeman withheld the name of the suspect to protect the identity of the victim and her family.

Abellana said the mother and the minor went to Liloan Police Station to report the alleged rape prompting the police operatives to conduct a hot pursuit operation.  The 42-year-old suspect who holds the rank of patrolman in the Philippine National Police (PNP) organization was no longer in their house when the responding police operatives arrived. The team traced the suspect to Asturias where he was arrested.

CPPO director Police Colonel Percival R. Zorrilla said the suspect will face the consequences of his action. Zorilla vowed that the PNP organization will never tolerate any wrongdoings among its personnel.

“We do not tolerate wrongdoings in the PNP, all members of the organization should have a moral compass to guide them in their actions,” Zorilla said in a statement.

Police Lieutenant Colonel Gerard Ace Pelare, spokesperson of Police Regional

Office 7, said the erring policeman is now under custody and will be facing a criminal complaint for rape.

“We reiterate the instruction of the Regional Director that there will be no sacred cow. Everyone will be treated fairly, kung naa’y sala bisan pag pulis, we will file the necessary charges, administrative, criminal, and civil charges if the evidence warrants,” Pelare said. – /FPL (FREEMAN)
