‘Scammer’ falls after victimizing delivery rider

Adelyn Landiza - The Freeman

CEBU, Philippines — An alleged scammer was arrested after he conned a delivery rider of his hard-earned money amounting to P1,200 through a fake booking.

The suspect identified as Greman Louise Caaway Malinao, 44, a resident of Barangay Bagay, Daanbantayan in northern Cebu, booked Maxim rider Charles Spencer Belocura, 25, to deliver a bottle of wine to Barangay Mambaling, Cebu City Wednesday dawn.

The suspect instructed Belocura to deliver the package to a supposed buyer waiting near a mall in Barangay Mambaling. Belocura told the police that nobody showed up at the supposed meeting place prompting him to check the package. To his surprise, Belocura said, the bottle did not contain wine but water.

Belocura said he was able to trace the suspect’s location at IT Park prompting him to seek assistance from Mabolo Police Station resulting in the arrest of Malinao. Since the crime happened in Mambaling, the suspect was turned over to Mambaling Police Station where he is temporarily detained.

Police Major Jonathan Bethooven Taneo, Mambaling Police Station chief, said that aside from Malinao they are looking at another personality who is also involved in similar modus. – /FPL (FREEMAN)
