CEBU, Philippines — Mandaue City’s various departments set the bar high once again for public service and good governance with the recently-concluded Revalida 2024 following the strategic guidance of the Performance Governance System, led by the Office of Strategic Management.

The local government unit together with its identified panelists assessed and verified the accomplishments, developments, and initiatives carried out by each department of the city through the presentation of data last January 29 to 31.

The City Environment and Natural Resources Office (CENRO) of Mandaue City received the most awards with four during an awarding ceremony led by Mayor Jonas Cortes.

CENRO headed by architect Araceli Barlam won as Gold Trailblazer Award (City Roadmap), Platinum Trailblazer Award (Department’s Roadmap), Gold Trailblazer Award (Overall Strategic Performance), and Mandaue Mover Award.

Aside from CENRO, the City Planning and Development Office won as Top Collaborator and Silver Trailblazer Award (Overall Strategic Performance), the Sangguniang Panlungsod ng Mandaue won as the Top Contributor in the Mandaue Special Citation Award and Gold Trailblazers Award (Department’s Roadmap), the City Treasurer’s Office as Gold Trailblazers Award (Department’s Roadmap) and Silver Trailblazer Award (Overall Strategic Performance), while the Public Information Office won as Silver Trailblazer Award (Overall Strategic Performance) and Silver Trailblazer Award (Department’s Roadmap).

Several other departments were also given an award in the different categories.

In his speech, Mayor Jonas Cortes said: “I am profoundly inspired by the remarkable progress we have achieved together. The presentation we witnessed during the Revalida showcase not just roadmaps, but the collective aspirations of a community determined to transcend boundaries and achieve greatness. It is a testament to the spirit of innovation, collaboration, and relentless pursuit of excellence that defines Mandaue City.

“The performance governance system serves as the guiding beacon, illuminating the path towards transformative change. I stand before you today not only as your mayor, but as a staunch advocate for the principles of good governance. I urge each and every one of you to embrace this paradigm shift wholeheartedly. Let us not view it as a mere obligation, but as an opportunity to redefine service for our people.”

He told the awardees that they have the power to effect moving breakthroughs in the city and for them to seize this moment with unwavering determination.

“Let us move Mandaue towards a future that is not just prosperous, but equitable. A future that is not just bright but a radiant with promise. Our greatest achievements are yet to come and with great courage as our compass and resilience as our anchor, there is no limit to what we can continuously move Mandaue towards greatness,” the mayor added.

The awarding was also graced by Vice Mayor Glenn Bercede and City Councilors Maline Cortes Zafra, Jen Del Mar, Oscar del Castillo, Editha Cabahug, Cynthia Cinco-Remedio, Executive Secretary Ernie Manatad, and ABC President Dante Bornajo. — (FREEMAN)
