Caecent No-ot Magsumbol - The Freeman

CEBU, Philippines — The City of Bogo has been recognized as the top legislative council among the component cities in the country.

The recognition was given by the Department of Interior and Local Government along with the Philippine Councilors’ League and the Vice Mayors League of the Philippines.

Bogo bested the other component cities in the country for its significant accomplishments in local legislation “that ultimately contributed to the attainment of desirable socio-economic and environmental management outcomes.”

The City Council of Bogo headed by Vice Mayor Mayel Martinez received a plaque of recognition and a P100,000 incentive.

San Fernando City in Pampanga bagged the second place while Batangas City settled for third place.

Just recently, the City of Bogo was also named lone city in Central Visayas to have aced the Seal of Good Local Governance (SGLG) Award by the DILG for the year 2023.

Meanwhile, Mandaue City finished second to Quezon City as the best legislative council among the highly urbanized cities in the country. Bacolod City wound up third place. Mandaue got a plaque and P75,000 cash prize.

The City of Santiago in Isabela emerged as the top independent component city followed by Ormoc in Leyte and Cotabato in Maguindanao.

The legislative councils were assessed based on their responsiveness to the legislative agenda, availability of legislative documents, effectiveness, efficiency, legislative citations and awards, and capacity development for legislators and staff.

DILG Secretary Benhur Abalos on Tuesday lauded the efforts of the 15 top-performing city and municipal local legislative councils for enacting responsive measures that created huge impact in their respective areas.

“Your commitment to legislative excellence has not only set a standard for others to follow but has also significantly contributed to the advancement of our communities,” Abalos said. – /FPL (FREEMAN)
