5-year-old twins drown in a pool

CEBU, Philippines — Two five-year-old twins drowned in the swimming pool of a subdivision in Barangay Gabi, Cordova, Cebu at around 3:40 in the afternoon on Sunday.

The victims were identified as Dexson and Patrick Sarmiento who were said to be playing ball near the pool.

Police Major Michael Gingoyon, chief of the Cordova Police Station, said that while the twins were playing, the ball fell into the swimming pool.

“Nagduwa ang bata sa playground ba, ang bola napadpad didto sa swimming pool ilaha na daw nakuha ang bola karon kato usa niya ka kambal ni apas na slide sa pool gusto e-save sa usa ka igsoon sila hinoon duha,” said Gingoyon.

The victims were brought to the ARC Medical Center in Lapu-Lapu City by members of the Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office but were declared dead after a few hours.

Relatives of the confirmed that the twins were playing ball in the playground but the ball may have bounced towards the swimming pool. The twins tried to get the ball in the water but they ended up being drowned. — (FREEMAN)
