CEBU, Philippines —  The Department of Science and Technology has given due recognition to their scholars who graduated with flying colors recently while also encouraging undergraduates to pursue courses in engineering, and science and technology professionals to drive economic growth in the country.

Dubbed as “In Touch With Excellence” is an annual celebration of the DOST-7 acknowledging scholars who excel academically.

This year, there are a total of 235 awardees in Cebu Province including 112 cum laude, 116 magna cum laude, and seven summa cum laude graduates.

These awardees, according to DOST’s Scholarship Unit, benefited from DOST’s Undergraduate and Junior Level Science Scholarship Programs.

The scholarship covers tuition fees, a monthly allowance of ?7,000, clothing and book allowances, and other school fees.

During the event, awardees received medals and certificates of excellence.

“These graduates aren’t just finishing school…they are building a brighter future for the Philippines,” stressed DOST-7 regional director, Engr. Jesus F. Zamora, Jr., while also acknowledging the university coordinators, parents, and guardians for supporting the scholar-awardees.

In its continued commitment, DOST is also calling on students aspiring to become DOST scholars to submit their applications online now.

The 2024 Undergraduate Scholarship e-application is already open. Detailed information is available on the Department of Science and Technology VII Facebook page.

“This opportunity is specifically aimed at incoming Grade 12 students in AY 2024 who intend to pursue STEM courses upon enrolling in college the following year. The objective of this scholarship program is to promote knowledge-driven progress through the development of human resources in STEM,” DOST said.

DOST-7 underscores the need for more engineers, scientists, and tech professionals to drive economic growth.

As such, DOST-SEI Undergraduate Scholarship Programs prioritize several programs within the STEM field. These programs include Aeronautical Engineering, Chemistry with Material Science, Industrial Pharmacy, Computer Science, Civil Engineering, Molecular Biology and Biotechnology, Instrumentation and Control Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering Management and Mechatronics and Robotics.

These programs can be pursued at State Universities and Colleges, as well as institutions with Level III FAAP accreditation and at Centers of Development for priority science and technology courses. (CEBU NEWS)
