Contractor to restor collapsed road
CEBU, Philippines — The private developer of the Patria de Cebu has pledged to restore the collapsed portion of the Legaspi Street in Barangay Sto. Niño, Cebu City in three days.
About 10 meters of the road which is around 40 meters from the construction site collapsed on Wednesday following heavy rainfall that saturated the clayish soil and eventual collapse of a portion of the road, according to City Councilor Jerry Guardo in an interview with The Freeman yesterday.
Guardo added that there were already some tension cracks on the road before it collapsed that could be the entry of water.
“Actually, naa na gyud tension cracks, naa nay mga indications na ni erode na sa ilawm…Possibly, kay naa na may mga cracks didto ni sip in so na loosen gyud ang soil sa ilawm unya ug naa nay tubig daghan, maong na ing-ana,” added Guardo.
As for the ongoing building construction of the new Patria de Cebu, Guardo said, it remains safe based on the assurance of the structural engineers of Dakay Construction and Development Corp.
Guardo said Dakay Construction is now doing the repair works since it is very near the construction site.
“Nipasalig ra gyud silang Dakay for a total road repair and restoration,” said Guardo.
Engr. Ricky Dakay himself, according to Guardo, said they will do it in three days but the latter said it could take as long as seven days for the road to be usable again.
“Well, with the track record of Dakay, I believe they can do it,” Guardo said.
Guardo personally went to the area yesterday to check on the on-going road repairs and said workers have been working 24/7 for it to be done.
“Right now, they are now putting boulders to prevent sa pagdahili na pud unya sa yuta. Unya naay murag retention wall unya tambakan nila for concrete pouring. Complete man sila equipment, manpower, engineers so I think makahuman gyud sila on schedule kung wala lang gyuy kusog na pud na pag ulan,” added Guardo. — Rowena D. Capistrano/GMR (CEBU NEWS)
