Mitchelle L. Palaubsanon - The Freeman

CEBU, Philippines — The Bureau of Customs Port of Cebu recently hosted a coordination meeting with the Bureau of Jail Management and Penology (BJMP)-7, in a proactive effort to promote inter-agency collaboration, address key challenges within the Central Visayas region, and to enhance their joint efforts to safeguard public interest.

During the meeting, BOC Cebu district collector Atty. Ricardo Uy Morales II and BJMP-7 JCSUPT. Gen. Neil Ranoco Avisado exchanged valuable insights and information addressing areas of mutual concern, including cross-border smuggling prevention, security enhancements, and intelligence sharing.

“The exchange of best practices and the identification of areas for synergy with a focus on improving the overall safety and security within the region were key components of the dialogue,” BOC-Port of Cebu says in their Facebook post.

Both officials also acknowledged the importance of seamless collaboration to ensure the efficient execution of their duties.

“Effective inter-agency coordination is essential for optimizing our efforts to maintain the integrity of our ports and prevent the entry of contraband goods. By working together, we can amplify our impact in thwarting illegal imports and trade, which often intertwine with criminal networks. This meeting with the BJMP marks a step forward in building a robust network for information sharing and joint initiatives that will contribute to a safer and more secure environment for our fellow Visayans,” said Morales II.

The coordination meeting, it said, signifies a positive step towards achieving an impregnable locality for the citizens of Cebu and the entire Region 7. —/FPL (FREEMAN)
