‘No left turn’ in Carcar starting August 10

Le Phyllis F. Antojado-Orillaneda - The Freeman

CEBU, Philippines — Cebu Governor Gwen Garcia has ordered a "no left turn" traffic rule in Carcar City for vehicles going for the Cebu South Road (CSR) effective tomorrow, August 10.

In an August 8 memorandum addressed to Mayor Patrick Barcenas and the city police, the governor said this rule should be observed by all vehicles passing through Carcar.

The measure is meant to help decongest traffic in the city.

As per the memorandum, vehicles in Valladolid, Carcar city that are going for the CSR are not allowed to turn left. Instead, they should make a right turn for Valladolid Bridge, where they can make a U turn.

South-bound vehicles using the CSR are also not allowed to turn left to the diversion road leading to Carcar City Hall. Instead, they should proceed to the Awayan-CSR junction, which is near Cebu Grand Mall, and make a U turn there before turning right to the diversion road.

North-bound vehicles from the Aloguinsan-Awayan provincial road, on the other hand, "shall not immediately take a left turn upon entering Cebu South Road. Instead, vehicles coming from this area shall take the roundabout at the Awayan-Cebu South Road junction."

Last Monday, August 7, Garcia met Barcenas and Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH)-7 officials and discussed ways to ease the traffic situation in Carcar, especially that the Capitol is now preparing for the upcoming Pasigarbo sa Sugbo, which the city is hosting on August 27.

During the meeting, Garcia mentioned a similar rule implemented at the national highway in northern Cebu town of Consolacion.

In a report, the Capitol Information Office quoted Barcenas as saying he would just wait for a copy of the governor's memorandum before implementing the guideline.

In the same August 7 meeting, the governor ordered DPWH-7 to finish the concreting works of the over 100 meters of unpaved portion of the diversion road, as it where the Pasigarbo sa Sugbo street dancing competition would take place. — (FREEMAN)
