Indian attacked while collecting debt

CEBU, Philippines — An Indian national was assaulted by two individuals after a heated argument concerning money collection on July 15, 2023 at around 2:15 p.m. in sitio Kahuyan, Barangay Mambaling, Cebu City.

The victim was identified as Baljit Singh, a businessman, money collector, and a resident of sitio Kimba, Barangay Cansojong, Talisay City.

Singh went to the place of incident to collect money from a female client.

An argument ensued between the client and her nephew, Fritch Gerald Luchavez Matsumoto, 33, a resident of sitio Huyong-Huyong, Barangay Mambaling.

In the middle of the argument, Matsumoto then punched Singh ion the face.

This caused a commotion in the area with other residents, including Fedelito Taberno Luchavez, 54, attacking Singh in the process.

Personnel of the Mambaling Police Station 11 then responded to an alarm at around 2 p.m. and arrested both Matsumoto and Luchavez.

It was also found out that a ring and an amount of around P20,000 was also lost by the suspect’s aunt.
