Ex-convict shot dead
CEBU, Philippines — A 43-year-old man was shot dead while waiting for someone past 3 a.m. Tuesday dawn in sitio Tinabangay, Alaska, Barangay Mambaling, Cebu City.
The victim was identified as Roel Marikit Gungob, a resident of Consolacion, Cebu.
According to the chief of Mambaling Police Station 11, Major Jonathan Beethoven Taneo, the victim just wanted to meet someone in the area allegedly for a drug transaction.
The police traced the victim's background and found out that he was an ex-convict charged with illegal drugs and illegal possession of a firearm.
While waiting, an assailant suddenly approached the victim and shot him in his head.
“Among gitan-aw ani base sa background investigation namo supposedly naa siya’y kitaon sa area then alleged naa siya’y drug transaction nga mahitabo..Mao na atong gitan-aw nga motibo sa hitabo,” said Taneo.
Following the incident, Police Col. Ireneo Dalogdog, director of the Cebu City Police Office, ordered Taneo to continue the hot pursuit operation against the suspect.
The police already have a lead on the person responsible for the crime but they did not disclose it yet while investigation is still ongoing. — GMR (FREEMAN)
