10 workers receive new bicycles, gears
CEBU, Philippines — Some deserving workers from different barangays in Cebu City got new mountain bikes and other cycling gear via the Wheels for Work Project.
City Councilor Jaypee Labella disclosed that at least 10 workers from the different barangays in the city, who are breadwinners in their respective families, benefitted from the project.
Those selected workers got brand new mountain bikes each, helmets and cycling kits, through the generosity of Grab, which is also part of the said project.
The Wheels for Work project is an initiative of the Makati Business Club and the Ayala Foundation during the World Bicycle Day way back in 2021.
From Manila, the said initiative had spread throughout different parts of the country.
The project aims “to provide new bikes to Filipino workers in need of safe and sustainable transportation for their daily commutes to work.”
Most of the local government units that have so far benefitted from this project are also those that are promoting “active transport,” including Cebu City.
Labella, who chairs the committee on labor, employment, cooperative, and livelihood, said in a post that he is happy to be part of the selection process and monitoring of beneficiaries here.
“I truly believe that mobility is key to success, especially for those who work hard every day to provide for their families. By providing these bicycles, we hope to make their daily commutes easier, environment-friendly and more efficient,” Labella said. — GAN (FREEMAN)
