“Notorious snatcher” nabbed after lady victim resisted

Romeo Marantal - The Freeman

CEBU, Philippines — Àn alleged notorious snatcher landed in jail after his lady victim resisted and immediately asked the other people around for help yesterday morning near the GSIS Building along Leon Kilat Street, Cebu City.

The authorities identified the suspect as Orlando Epogon Amarillo, of Barangay Obaob, Municipality of Argao, but is currently staying in Bontores, Talisay City.

The lady victim, a call center employee and residing at Urgello Street, Barangay Sambag 1, got injured when she held on to her phone.

Police Staff Sergeant Joel Perolino, who is investigating the case, said the victim was walking when the suspect, onboard a motorcycle, snatched the victim's cellular phone and threatened to harm her.

The victim, however, held on to her mobile device and managed to grab the motorcycle while calling for help.

This resulted in the motorcycle swerving and crashing. Bystanders immediately came to the aid of the victim and arrested the suspect.

Amarillo claimed it was his first time, but the police did not believe him and vowed to deepen their investigation because another police officer from another police station went and checked if this is the same suspect in the theft incidents within their area of responsibility.

Cebu City Police Office City Director Ireneo Dalogdog said that they have beat patrollers where policemen from the different police stations go out, leaving just the desk officer, general investigator and the guard at the custodial facility.
