Civic group joins city in repainting activity

CEBU, Philippines — A civic group based outside of Cebu City went the extra mile to join a painting session yesterday to help eradicate graffiti and vandalism in the city.

Councilor Jaypee Labella, who is heading the “Gubat sa Graffiti,” said they are very happy with the support extended by the Consolacion Cebu Integrated North Eagles Club in re-painting the city – this time, around the Archbishop Reyes flyover, near TESDA.

This is the second time Labella’s office, in coordination with the Cebu City Transportation Office, is doing this activity.

The first one was in V. Rama Avenue, which was conducted together with another Eagles group.

“We started sa V. Rama., lahi na grupo sa Eagles. Karon, hasta ang dili taga Cebu City na chapter karon nitabang,” said Labella, through the mayor’s special assistant, Ramil Ayuman.

Labella said Mayor Mike Rama wanted the involvement of fraternity groups, since it is also the fraternity groups and gangs that are usually involved in vandalizing the city in the past.

For the different fraternity groups, joining painting sessions here will be part of their social civic participation.

Labella just hopes that the rest of the population will now cooperate, show discipline, like in Singapore, and help the city get rid of all those graffiti and vandalism, and to keep the city clean.

“Atong hangyo sa katawhan sa syudad, palihug ayaw vandali ug balik. Sayang sa oras and pintal. Disiplina sa atong mga katawhan diri sa Cebu atong ipakita,” Labella said.

Aside from clearing the city of all those graffiti, the city government is also gearing up a massive greening and beatification program in all the 80 barangays. — GAN (FREEMAN)
