Dad asks OBO to act vs fast food company

Caecent No-ot Magsumbol - The Freeman

CEBU, Philippines —  The Cebu City Council wants clarification from the Office of the Building Official (OBO) and take action of a long-time concern on a structure along F. Gonzales Street in Barangay Sto.Nino.

City Councilor Pastor Alcover, in a privilege speech, said there is no approved permit for the renovations made by a fast food company he identified as Mang Inasal.

According to Alcover, the establishment violated P.D. 1096 or the National Building Code and had already been sent a notice of illegal construction in 2019.

“Dili man ko abogado ug dili pud ko architect, maong ako nang itugyan sa atong mga experts aning butanga kung unsa ang mga teknikal na kalapasan sa maong lagda,” said Alcover.

Alcover’s move came as the city government in allegedly quick in clearing street vendors, but no actions are reportedly taken on business establishments that have violations.

“Ang atong mga street vendors dali ra kaayong dakpon sa PROBE kung adunay kalapasan sa lagda kabahin sa pagpaninda sa sidewalk. Pero nganong kini na almost 5 years apan walay aksyon?” Alcover said.

He also emphasized there should be no “holy cows” in the city and be fair for everyone.

Alcover was supposed to request the Office of the Mayor, through its City Legal Office, to take appropriate actions on the endorsement from OBO back on October 14, 2022 against Mang Inasal, but other councilors said the OBO themselves can already do the appropriate action to this and do not need the mayor’s office anymore.

The City Council instead is asking OBO to shed light on it and act on it asap to end all doubts. — GAN (FREEMAN)
