Brgy. Inayawan opens child-minding center

Caecent No-ot Magsumbol - The Freeman

CEBU, Philippines — Barangay Inayawan has opened a child-minding center where working parents can soon leave their children for free.

The indoor playground facility is similar to those in malls, said barangay captain Kirk Bryan Repollo.

Repollo said the center is a safe and fun space for young kids to stay while their parents are at work. The center is already open but caters only to children enrolled in the barangay’s day care center.

Repollo said that they decided to put up the indoor playground to give the kids in their area, especially the less fortunate ones, the experience of such a playground.

At the moment, those with fixed schedules for use are the pupils under the barangay’s day care center but Repollo promised to come up with the final schedules soon.

Repollo told The Freeman that this school year has a total of 30 kids under the day care center divided into two classes, one in the morning and another one in the afternoon with four teachers each shift.

The number of pupils had been limited to only 30 since they are already implementing the full face-to-face classes.

Repollo said they are using barangay funds for this project which is something he did not regret after seeing how happy the kids are to be in the indoor playground.

Regarding the child-minding center, they have not yet allowed working parents to leave their kids behind as the barangay still has to come up with guidelines for it.

In some local government units, child-minding centers are limited to their own employees while at work.

“As of now wala pa namo pa binli kay himo pa mi guidelines,” Repollo said. (FREEMAN)
