P26.7 million released as financial aid to Central Visayas students

CEBU, Philippines —  A total of P26,773,000 has been given as financial assistance to at least 9,894 students in crisis situation in the Central Visayas as of September 17, 2022, according to the Department of Social Welfare and Development-7.

Of the 9,894 beneficiaries,  2,396 are in elementary amounting to P2,397,000; 2,036 are in high school amounting to P4,072,000; 1,543 are in senior high school amounting to P4,629,000; and 3,919 are in college/vocational amounting to P15,676,000.

The educational assistance is under the DSWD’s Assistance to Individuals in Crisis Situations (AICS), which provides aid to students in crisis to pay for their school fees, school supplies, projects and allowance.

In Mandaue City, 3,000 students have so far availed of the educational assistance.

Mayor Jonas Cortes said he is making sure that the distribution held at the Mandaue City Cultural and Sports Complex is orderly.

“Agi og suporta sa kalihukan sa DSWD nihatag ang Mandaue City og libre nga hot meal, lugaw, pospas, biscuit, candy, milo, coffee ug drinking water. Libre usab ang photocopy sa mga gikinahanglan nga dokumento. Nakaandam ang Medical Station, ug kay init man ang panahon naay free ice cream,” said the mayor in his Facebook post.

Scheduled every Saturday, the release of AICS Educational Assistance started from August 20 to September 24, 2022. — LPM (FREEMAN)
