DVMF assures enough supply of chicken meat

Mary Ruth R. Malinao - The Freeman

CEBU, Philippines — The Department of Veterinary Medicine and Fisheries (DVMF) has clarified that an adequate supply of chicken meat has been restored in Cebu City.

Dr. Jessica Maribojoc, officer-in-charge of DVMF, said that there have been instances in the past few weeks when there was a decrease on the supply of chicken due to the National Meat Inspection Service conducting reevaluations of various poultry sources, especially in the neighboring areas of the city.

“Actually, wala ta’y problema sa supply, maski karon… Kung moingon ta’g supply... Naa jud ang supply,” said Maribojoc.

“Ang reason man gud ana is daghan man gud og source, actually mabuhi ang Cebu Province hasta ang Cebu City regarding ana kay one Cebu man ta,” she said.

She added that there were also stores that made inventories, so they were not able to immediately deliver supply of chicken meat.

Based on their latest monitoring, she said that the arrival of chicken meat is already fast. However, even with the adequate supply of chicken, Maribojoc said that a price increase was implemented.

Currently, the price of chicken in the city’s public market ranges from P170 to P195 per kilo.

Maribojoc said that such increase is due to the high price of crude oil that pushed the transportation cost up resulting in the price increase.

“Ang problem lang is ang price ning-increase balik tungod sa krudo nato. Dako sad siya’g impact jud sa transportation,” she said. — FPL (FREEMAN)
