2 rape suspects arrested
CEBU, Philippines — Two suspected rapists were arrested by the operatives of Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG) in Barangay Pajo, Lapu-Lapu City last Monday and Tuesday, respectively.
The suspects who are facing six counts of rape were arrested based on a warrant of arrest issued by Regional Trial Court Branch 5 Judge Jose Alfonso Maliper Gomos.
The Freeman withheld the names of the suspects to protect the identity of the victim. The suspects are the stepfather and half-brother of the now 18-year-old victim.
CIDG Lapu-Lapu City field unit chief Capt. Nigel Sanoy said the stepfather was arrested on Tuesday, June 28, at the PUV terminal in Barangay Pajo while the half-brother was arrested a day earlier in Sitio Camansi in the same barangay.
Sanoy said the suspects started raping the victim when she was yet 16 years old.
“Ang incident nag start daw pag 16 years old sa bata. Ang bata karon, mao pay pag 18 niya last April. So, two years daw ni siya ang nilabay usa nahibaw-an sa inahan kay wala paman nisumbong ang bata,” Sanoy said.
“Puli-pulihan ni siya sa iyang half-brother, unya stepfather, ikatulo nga karelasyon sa inahan,” Sanoy added.
The suspects are temporarily detained at the CIDG Regional Office while waiting for the commitment order from the court. No bail was recommended for their temporary liberty.
“Karon naa na sila sa custody sa CIDG Regional Office. So, maghulat lang og commitment order sa korte para ato silang ibalhin sa Bureau of Jail Management and Penology (BJMP) diri sa Lapu-Lapu City,” Sanoy said. — FPL (FREEMAN)
