Mary Ruth R. Malinao - The Freeman

CEBU, Philippines — Cebu City Councilor Jocelyn Pesquera has urged the teachers in the city to help instill in the minds of the children the importance of cleanliness.

Pesquera made the statement during the induction of officials of the School Governing Council, Master Teachers’ Organization, and Faculty Club at Don Carlos A. Gothong Memorial National High School on April 18, 2022.

“There are so many things that we have to do. Number one, ang atong pagpanglimpyo. No matter how I promote the coastal tourism, no matter how I promote the coastal barangays, kung kulang ta ana nga aspeto, lisod,” she said.

Pesquera is the chairwoman of the city’s Tourism Commission.

“Through education, through the teachers, through you, you will be able to inculcate to the students the importance of cleanliness.  Kay unsaon nato pag-promote sa atong coastal tourism (kung dili limpyo ang lugar),” she added.

She said that among those that they will promote in the coastal tourism are the Badjao.

“I’m glad that Maam Marilou Dela Cuesta (school principal) had informed me that some of your students are Badjaos. One of our core products later for our coastal tourism is to showcase the Badjaos,” said Pesquera.

Mayor Michael Rama, for his part, stressed the importance of the role of teachers as they are the ones who will mold the children to become good citizens of the country.

“Ang pamilya ang mama mao ang pirmerong maestra, ang papa maoy pirmerong maestro. Pero ang pag-umol sa formative years, which is prep(aratory school) until high school…my dear teachers, you are the mentors, you are the molders,” said Rama. —JMD (FREEMAN)
