Closure of U-turn slot at CSCR extended

The Freeman

CEBU, Philippines —  The Cebu-Cordova Link Expressway (CCLEX) has extended until March 15 the temporary closure of the U-turn slot at the Cebu South Coastal Road (CSCR) near SM Seaside due to the ongoing construction of the toll expressway.

Motorists are advised to use the U-turn slot at Compania Maritima.

"The closure is needed for CCLEX construction works. We apologize for the inconvenience," CCLEX said in a statement.

The infrastructure is a project of the Cebu Cordova Link Expressway Corporation, a wholly-owned subsidiary of the Metro Pacific Tollways Corporation, in partnership with the City of Cebu and the Municipality of Cordova.

CCLEX will use an all-electronic toll system to speed up traffic flow and smooth travel. It undertakes the 8.5-kilometer toll expressway that will connect the Municipality of Cordova and Cebu City.

The third bridge is set to be completed by this year. The project is presently at 90 percent construction progress.

"The remaining 10 percent work now only covers piping and ducting as well as construction of safety barriers at the CSCR on and off ramps, Cebu viaduct, main bridge, Cordova viaduct, and causeway," CCLEX statement reads.

Aside from the toll expressway, CCLEX also has an ongoing embankment works at the causeway.

The third bridge is highlighted by its iconic crosses on top of the twin pylons of the cable-stayed main bridge over the Mactan Channel. It has a design speed of 80 kilometers per hour (kph) and a navigational clearance or height of 51 meters to allow large vessels to pass underneath the bridge.

It is foreseen to create trade activities and open greater economic opportunities for Cebu and the rest of the Visayas region. — FPL (FREEMAN)
