Parking not allowed outside Cebu City cemeteries

Sanden J. Anadia - The Freeman

CEBU, Philippines — Motorists are warned not to park their vehicles within the vicinity of cemeteries in Cebu City, otherwise their vehicles will be immobilized by clamping the tires for illegal parking.

Cebu City Transportation Office (CCTO) spokesman Paul Gotiong said no vehicles are allowed to park within the vicinity of the cemetery to ensure free flow of vehicular and foot traffic.

“Ato lang gyud tumanon ang lagda, para dili  ma-traffic ang area,” he said.

He said motorists are only permitted to drop off their passengers.

He said CCTO has also started deploying its personnel to the cemeteries to ensure smooth flow of traffic.

Large crowds are expected to troop to cemeteries on November 1 and 2 to visit their deceased loved ones.

CCTO will also keep track of the traffic situation as well as emergency operations during the observance of Kalag-Kalag.

CCTO is not keen on recommending traffic rerouting schemes.

"Wala ta ni-recommend anang rerouting. Ang ato lang i-monitor og maayo ang mga kadalanan nga doul sa menteryo. Og moawhag ta sa mga tawo nga dili magpataka og park sa ilang mga sakyanan," said Gotiong.

The city government has also partnered with other agencies and organization to ensure a peaceful Kalag-Kalag.

Emergency medical services and personnel will be on standby.

The city government has also called on the public to keep cemeteries clean and tidy.

Those caught littering in cemeteries will be issued with citation tickets by the city’s Environmental and Sanitation Team. — KQD (FREEMAN)
