Traffic violators in Cebu City down by 36%
CEBU, Philippines — The number of traffic violators in Cebu City has decreased by around 36 percent, data of the Cebu City Transportation Office (CCTO) showed.
CCTO issued 15,737 citation tickets last month, way lower than the 21,340 in March.
Disregarding traffic signs and illegal parking were the most common violations committed by motorists.
Other motorists were caught driving without a driver’s license and expired registration, among others.
Each violator was slapped with at least P1,000 in fine.
CCTO, in a Facebook post, reminded motorists not to park their cars on streets and sidewalks.
“Gusto namo ipahinumdom usab sa publiko nga sundon ang mga lagda sa trapiko labi na kung adunay mga sign board ug likayan nga makababag sa mga karsada ug mga sidewalk,” the post read.
For illegal parking, CCTO impounded 211 motorcycles and clamped 522 vehicles in April alone.
In the same month, it also filed cases against 83 violators before the court for failing to settle their traffic fines.
The traffic agency also advised motorist to regularly check the status of their pending citation tickets to avoid facing cases in court.
Violators are only given 72 hours or three working days to pay the fines noted in their citation tickets, or else they will be sued. — KQD (FREEMAN)
