Badian’s Kawasan Falls set to reopen on May 1

CEBU, Philippines —  One of the famous tourist destinations in Cebu’s southwest coast is set to open its doors to tourists after over a year of closure due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Kawasan Falls in Barangay Matutinao, Badian town will start again accepting tourists this Saturday, May 1.

Badian is 104 kilometers away from Cebu city or over a three-hour drive.

Donald Villarin, the municipal tourism officer, said Kawasan Fall will only accommodate 400 guests a day in compliance with the 50 percent carrying capacity required for tourist destinations.

He said walk-in guests are welcome.

The provincial government has permitted swimming and sightseeing activities in waterfalls as stated in the governor’s Executive Order No. 13.

Cebu is still under modified general community quarantine (MGCQ).

Villarin said the town will implement measures to ensure the health and safety of the visitors.

He said the municipal government has set up handwashing stations, reception desks with plastic shields, and social distancing markers.

He said tourists are required to comply with the minimum public health standards and protocols, including the wearing of face masks.

“To all our guests at Kawasan Falls, you are all welcome to visit the destination. Let us always observe the health and safety protocols. Let us not be complacent while COVID-19 pandemic is still an issue. Explore, experience and enjoy the breathtaking Badian,” Villarin said.

Villarin said temperature of the tourists will also be taken before entering the tourist spot.

As for the staff, he said, they are required to wear face masks and shields, gloves, and air purifier.

He said health and safety precaution signage are also plastered all over the tourism center in Kawasan.

Villarin said the town has also established food stations and accommodations in designated areas. — KQD (FREEMAN)
