70 taxi drivers ticketed for illegal parking

Sanden J. Anadia - The Freeman

CEBU, Philippines — The Cebu City Transportation Office (CCTO) has apprehended around 70 taxi drivers for illegal parking last Wednesday.

The CCTO personnel have observed that some taxi drivers are not mindful of the road obstructions while waiting for passengers which prompted them to issue citation tickets.

CCTO has been receiving complaints of heavy congestion on different streets in the city because of illegal parking.

In a statement, CCTO advised the taxi drivers to check regularly their pending citation tickets to avoid the issuance of bench warrant.

The said office saw the need to constantly implement the ordinance to ensure that violators will learn their lesson and hopefully abide by the rules and regulations the next time.

Local governments units were ordered to help in the road clearing operation by following the Memorandum Circular 2020-145 of the Department of Interior and Local Government.

While the city is still under the modified general community quarantine, the CCTO remains in full force to control traffic as more vehicles are expected to ply on the road because of the reopening of economy.
