Mandaue village gets day care center

CEBU, Philippines — Barangay Basak in Mandaue City finally has its own day care center after years of leasing, thanks to the Soco family.

Soco’s patriarch, former Mandaue City councilor Guillermo “Momoy” Soco, formally turned over the day care center to Barangay Basak through its barangay council headed by Barangay Captain Felipe “Eping” Diano last Friday.

The project was materialized through a Memorandum of Agreement signed between Barangay Basak Council and the Soco family.

The barangay council endorsed a resolution to the Soco family requesting for a day care center to be situated in a lot owned and allocated by the barangay in Sitio Alliance.

According to Diano, the barangay never had its own center and has been renting a space in another location.

Diano thanked the Soco family for heeding their call for support.

The formal turnover and ribbon-cutting was preceded by a blessing of the facility officiated by Fr. Joseph Onesimo Zacarias Jr. It was attended by Momoy’s wife, Adelina, their son, Provincial Board Member Glenn Soco, daughter, Anne Gay, and Dave Ting.

Mandaue City Councilor Jimmy Lumapas, City Social Welfare Services chief Maricel Yu, barangay councilmen, day care workers and parent officers were also present.

In his speech, Board Member Soco recounted how meaningful the project is to them as his parents are pure Basakanons, and that he was born in the same barangay.

“Kining amoang pagtabang sa early child care dugay na namong ginahimo sulod sa traynta ka tuig ug kaning amoang gamay nga grasya amoa pang paningkamotan nga makatabang mi sa atoang mga kaigsoonan sa amoang pribadong paningkamot. Makalaum mo sa amoang suporta sa kanunay,” Soco said. — KQD (FREEMAN)
