Cops told to avoid indiscriminate firing

CEBU, Philippines —  The Cebu City Police Office (CCPO) has reminded its personnel to avoid indiscriminate firing.

The reminder comes following the arrest of a soldier for indiscriminate firing during the Christmas celebration.

"The same gihapon no, bisan pa og kinsa especially ang uniformed personnel gidili jud ang pagpabuto og armas," said Police Lt. Colonel Wilbert Parilla, CCPO deputy director for operations.

Parilla also said that the same reminder applies with the civilians who are licensed to possess firearms and he encourages anyone to report armed individuals violating the order.

Initial investigation disclosed that said personnel of the Armed Forces of the Philippines was under the influence of alcohol.

"Mura og nakainom siya seguro, or gusto gyud siya magpabuto," said Parilla.

As to the possible administrative charges, Parilla said it's up for the AFP to decide.

Parilla said the incident will serve as a lesson-learned to all uniformed personnel not just with the Philippine National Police but also to the military with issued firearms.
