CEBU, Philippines — Almost 18,000 Cebuanos have expressed interest to avail of micro-enterprise assistance program of the Cebu provincial government.

Sugbo news, the Capitol news page, reported a total of 17,881 applicants for Sugbo Negosyo program. The applicants will go through screening and evaluation by the Office of the Vice Governor and Provincial Board members to identify and asses who among them are qualified for the said program.

“They will identify who will qualify for the program based on potential success and classification of business, whether existing or start-up,” Sugbo news reported.

Qualified applicants for the program will be granted P10, 000 to P50, 000 worth of raw materials and supplies depending on which category they are in.

The Sugbo Negosyo program has three categories --Category A or “Negosyong Padayonon” is intended for established micro enterprise that needs recovery assistance and enhancement. Category B or “Produktong Sugbuanon” is for new and existing micro-enterprise engaged in manufacturing or processing while Category C or “Mga Serbisyo ug Gagmay’ng Patigayon” for new and existing micro-entrepreneurs engaged in trading and services.

Governor Gwendolyn Garcia told the representatives of the provincial board members to categorize the types of businesses and their needs to facilitate product matching with suppliers, giving them until today for the final list, which includes the products and other needs.

At least 30 suppliers have also committed to participate in the said program. The Sugbo Negosyo program is Capitol’s way of helping micro small medium entrepreneurs to recover from the effects of COVID-19 pandemic. — FPL (FREEMAN)
