Ferro welcomes ‘safest place’ tag

Iris Hazel M. Mascardo - The Freeman

CEBU, Philippines — Community participation and the war against illegal drugs have made the country into top 50 safest places in the world, said Police Regional Office 7 Director Albert Ignatius Ferro.

Ferro based upon his personal assessment in the police monitoring in Central Visayas.

The survey of the US-based analytics firm Gallup, Ferro said is a welcome note and President Rodrigo Duterte crediting the efforts of the military and the police force have boosted their morale in service.

"It’s a clear manifestation that the Filipino people are really into a disciplined environment, democracy should be a shared responsibility, dili lang to’ng freedom," said Ferro.

He added that this also corresponds to a representation of a “very good development” with regards to peace and order.

One of the factors mentioned as a basis in the survey was the decrease in the crime volume for the past months.

Just in Central Visayas alone, Ferro has previously mentioned that there has been a descending record on crime statistics with the police guarding the streets.

"But, for me the cooperation of community members is one of the major factors why we have been successful in our anti-crime and peace and order development," said Ferro.

Aside from this, Ferro also personally assessed that the order on the war on drugs added a factor into the success of the survey.

He said as the police force follows the order from the President in the enforcement of the war on drugs, the PNP have also implemented their internal cleansing among their ranks.

"We were ordered to be a good example of good deeds, we should cleanse our ranks, sa police naa man tay internal cleansing, sa military naay anti-corruption," said Ferro.

Furthermore, Ferro added that as the survey has boosted their morale on their service, they vowed to sustain the development. — GMR (FREEMAN)
