Lapu-Lapu City health office burglary: Police eye “inside job”

Iris Hazel M. Mascardo - The Freeman

CEBU, Philippines —  The Lapu-Lapu City police are not discounting the possibility of inside job behind the burglary incident at the City Health Department wherein around P50,000 cash was taken.

Police Major Jose Angelo Acupinpin, Lapu-Lapu City Police Office Station 3 chief, said they are still gathering information that could lead them into identifying the unknown perpetrators who forcibly went into the CHD office last Saturday morning.

"So far investigation nag-disclose nga naay more or less 40k to 50k money nga nawala didto sulod sa ilang opisina, kuan kuno to siya collection gikan sa barangay health workers sa membership ug donation for bereaved family," Acupinpin told reporters yesterday.

Aside from the money taken, there were also personal coins that were taken. Some office equipment like laptops were not stolen, according to Acupinpin.

"Possible. Open man mi wala pa mi gi-single out nga possible nga tawo nga nagbuhat ana, but possible pud nga inside job ni siya no," he added.

Acupinpin further said that initial investigation revealed that a particular window at the back potion of the building didn't have any jalousie thus believed to be the access of the burglars in going to the doors.

The incident was discovered by the employees at around 9:30 in the morning making the police believed that the burglary have taken place at dawn.

"Sa pagkakaron di pa jud ta kasulti kung pila ka tawo ang nibuhat ani kay sige pa ta og gather og witness nga possibly nakakita, wala sad CCTV footage nga nakuha didto, wala say naka-install nga CCTV," said Acupinpin.

In terms of security, Acupinpin said there was no specific security guard that manned the city health office.

At present, investigators have already advised the employees to close the window at the back portion of the building.

The money stolen was placed in a heavily-locked drawers believed to have been forcibly opened along with the doors. — GMR (FREEMAN)
