Tuburan rewards COVID-19 survivors

Gregg M. Rubio - The Freeman

CEBU, Philippines — The Municipality of Tuburan has rewarded COVID-19 patients who had recovered and graduated from isolation, while penalizes those who violate the quarantine protocols.

Last Thursday, Mayor Danilo Diamante handed over P10,000 each to the three COVID-19 patients who got infected at the workplace in Metro Cebu.

The three voluntarily submitted themselves for isolation upon learning that they were COVID-19 positive when they went home.

Diamante said he had issued an executive order on the reward program to encourage others to do the same, but also imposed a P25,000-penalty for those who would violate health and safety protocols.

These include those who escape from the isolation center and who do not report cases but went on to meet with other people.

“Ako ni gibuhat para ma-ingganyo gyud sila,” Diamante said.

Last July 1, someone called him up congratulating for being a COVID-free municipality.  However, in the afternoon of the same day, they received report of the first COVID case.

After the three have totally recovered, Tuburan is now again a COVID-free municipality.

“Di ingon nga molugak ta, padayon unsay nasugdan nga dili na gyud unta masudlan labi na wala nay border control,” Diamante said. — GAN (FREEMAN)
