CEBU, Philippines — Cebu Fifth District Representative Duke Frasco recently led the distribution of over P8 million worth of scholarships and financial aid to recipients in his district.

A total of 1,050 students have benefitted in the scholarship program.

Of the 1,050 beneficiaries, 587 are from Danao City and the municipalities of Carmen and Compostela, while there were 463 beneficiaries from the municipalities of Borbon, Sogod, and Catmon.

The scholarship program amounts to P4 million, wherein P2 million was set aside for Danao Carmen and Compostela, while another P2 million were for the municipalities of Borbon, Sogod, and Catmon.

The giving of scholarship is pursuant to the continuing commitment to prioritize education of the youth in the 5th District.

“The distribution of scholarships was delayed since March due to the imposition of ECQ and limited movement, but just as we have shifted to MGCQ, we are soldiering on and finding ways to help,” said Frasco in his Facebook account.

Also, Frasco led the distribution of P4 million worth of financial assistance to 1,002 habal-habal, trisikad, tricycle, multicab, and V-hire drivers in the municipality of Compostela.

Frasco said these sectors have been one of the worst-hit due to public transport prohibitions amidst the COVID-19 pandemic.

In addition, Frasco also gave P30,000 in cash to the principal of Basak Elementary School in Compostela for the repair of a photocopier and installation of internet to prepare the school children for the new normal.

This cash assistance is not from government funds, but personally came from the Frasco Foundation.

Earlier, Frasco led the distribution of over P2.3 million worth of scholarships to recipients located in the four municipalities in Camotes Island.

A total of 561 students from the municipalities of San Francisco, Poro, Pilar, and Tudela received scholarships that will aid them in enrollment and school needs.  GAN (FREEMAN)
