Cebu City posts more COVID-19 recoveries

CEBU, Philippines —  More patients have recovered from the coronavirus disease in Cebu City.

On July 10, Friday, 30 more patients were discharged from the Cebu City Quarantine Center (CCQC), bringing to 129 the total recoveries from the isolation facility.

The batch discharged last Friday was the fourth to be discharged from CCQC.

Meanwhile, the New Normal Oasis for Adaption and A Home (NOAH) Complex, which houses asymptomatic patients, also sent home 28 patients on Friday and 26 patients last Tuesday, said the complex’ assistant manager, Councilor Donaldo Hontiveros.  

Mayor Edgardo Labella said that city continues to log a higher recovery rate for COVID-19 patients compared to the national average.

“I’m happy to report that 30 more patients have been added to the number of COVID-19 recoveries in Cebu City. With timely intervention by the medical staff in our treatment facilities, the city continues to log a recovery rate for COVID-19 patients that is higher than the national average. My gratitude to our frontliners at the Cebu City Quarantine Center who go over and above their duty in taking care of the sick and afflicted,” Labella said in a Facebook post.

The CCQC is a level two facility inaugurated on April 25 and is among the facilities in the city taking care of patients with mild to moderate symptoms. At present, it is treating 60 patients using rigid treatment protocols that include medical, pharmacological, and psychosocial interventions.

Other facilities that cater to patients with moderate symptoms are the Bayanihan Field Center, the Sacred Heart School-Ateneo de Cebu, and the field center at the IEC Convention Center.

The three quarantine centers have the capacity of at least 600 patients.

As of July 10, Cebu City has a total of 7,246 confirmed cases and 3,650 recoveries.

The city is following DOH memorandum 2020-0123, which requires three levels of facilities to be prepared for COVID-19 patients.

An example of a level one facility is the barangay isolation center (BIC) where asymptomatic patients were housed.

Ninety-five percent of the patients in the city are asymptomatic.

Level two facilities are the quarantine center for patients with mild to moderate symptoms.

Hospitals are classified as level three facilities for patients who are infected seriously or severely.  JMO (FREEMAN)
