Capitol to charge P20 parking fee

Lorraine L. Ecarma - The Freeman

CEBU, Philippines — Non-capitol vehicles will now have to pay a fee to be able to park inside the Capitol compound.

Vehicle-owners who wish to park in the compound will be charged P20 for the first few hours of parking and an additional P10 for every succeeding hour.

Governor Gwendolyn Garcia, in an interview with Capitol reporters, said that this move is not so much to generate revenue, rather it is to control the entrance and parking of non-government vehicles in the Capitol compound.

She added that this scheme is to prioritize the vehicles of the province’s employees.

"It's not really to earn, it's more to control. Because we'd like nga priority usa ang mga naay opisina diri," Garcia said.

The governor also pointed out that the lack of regulation of parking in the compound has been prone to abuse, as there are reportedly some individuals who park their vehicles for weeks.

"Ang uban dirang mamarking, murag sinemana naman na way tandog-tandog. Di man na taga-Capitol," she said.

Garcia said she has also instructed the Provincial Engineering Office and the Provincial General Services Office to put up the necessary barriers to regulate vehicle entrance and to set up the system. (FREEMAN)
