P3 billion projects for Cebu City North District

CEBU, Philippines — Around P3 billion worth of big-ticket projects for Cebu City’s north district are set to be implemented this year, said Congressman Raul Del Mar.

The construction of skyways and/or tunnels in three most congested roads in the first district got the biggest appropriation at P1.3 billion.

The project starts from Gorordo Avenue—Salinas Drive —J. Luna Avenue — SM City, then Gorordo Ave. —Archbishop Reyes Ave — Gov, Cuenco Ave, and Cardinal Rosales — F. Cabahug Street — H. Cortes Street.

The second highest allocation of the budget at P1 billion was set aside for the construction of Barangay Lahug—Barangay Guadalupe diversion road; construction of the Cebu Technological University in Barangay Guba; construction of the NextGen Hub, which will be used as a center for youth activities, in Barangay Cogon-Ramos; and construction of the second building of the Cebu City North District Hospital at the D.V. Sotto Medical Center.

A budget of P635,971,000 was allotted for the construction of three skyways on Sergio Osmeña Boulevard corner  V. Sotto Street; on General Maxilom Avenue covering the junctions of M. Gotianuy St., Rahman St, and MJ Cuenco Ave.; and on P. del Rosario St. from the junction of Osmeña blvd to Leon Kilat St.

The remaining budget covers the asphalting and widening of nine roads; construction of various infrastructure projects in support of national security, and flood mitigation structures; and the implementation of local infrastructure program in various barangays, among others.

Most of the projects are expected to be completed by 2022.

Aside from these projects, Del Mar said the north district will continue the ongoing projects, such as the construction and rehabilitation of classrooms, health centers and sports complexes; the conduct of skills and livelihood trainings; and the implementation of scholarship programs, among others.  JMD (FREEMAN)
