Local politicians eyed in broadcasters slay
CEBU, Philippines — Probers are looking into the possible involvement of local politicians in the murder of broadcaster Dindo Generoso in Dumaguete City last week.
Col. Julian Entoma, Negros Oriental police director, said Generoso had been critical of politicians involved in small town lottery and cockfighting in the province, some of whom he had identified in his radio program.
However, Entoma said there is no strong evidence linking any politician to Generoso’s murder.
Entoma said two of the arrested suspects Teddy Salaw and Glen Corsame have not provided any information regarding any politician.
The reward for information that would lead to the arrest of two other suspects Cpl. Roger Rubio and Tomacino Aledro is now P100,000.
Justice Secretary Menardo Guevarra said he directed the Dumaguete City prosecutor’s office to apply for a precautionary hold departure order against Rubio and Aledro.
The Mitsubishi Strada used in the crime was allegedly owned by Aledro, who is also tagged in illegal gambling.
Guevarra said Aledro was in the Bureau of Immigration’s lookout bulletin since last week. Generoso was slain in an ambush at the intersection in Barangay Piapi, Dumaguete City on his way to work at the dyEM 96.7 Bai Radio. Philstar.com (FREEMAN)
