Labella wants report on dengue cases

CEBU, Philippines —  Cebu City Mayor Edgardo Labella has instructed City Health Officer Dr. Daisy Villa to submit a report on the city’s dengue cases and the extent of the damage caused.

Labella also asked for a comparative report of dengue cases in the city in 2017, 2018 and 2019, especially the report during wet season or rainy season.

He also said there are dengue testing kits for all the barangays that the city health and the Cebu City Medical Center have provided.

He also ordered to have a school-to-school fumigation.

Labella added that there is already a mandate to the barangays, especially to the Barangay Health Workers, to monitor the dengue cases.

Villa said that there are 11 persons who died of dengue from the January to August 3 this year.

She added that the dengue cases from January to August are lower compared last year.  We registered 2,900 last year, while we only have 1,166 this year.

“Naa tay Dengue Task Force nga mga sanitary inspector nga mao gyud ilang buhaton ang pag-check sa mga lugar,” Villa said.

She said they wrote letter to the mayor requesting for a separate vehicle for the Dengue Task force.

Villa said that they are emphasizing the 4(S) of the dengue program – Search and Destroy, Self-Protection, Seek early consultation and Say No to Indiscriminate fogging.

They are also adding one more “S” to include social mobilization to get the community involved in these activities.

The city health office has also written a letter to the Department of Education to get the schools involved in the anti-dengue campaign, particularly on the search and destroy activities, larviciding and misting in the public schools. — Jebert A. Sarsonas, CNU Intern/GAN (FREEMAN)
