CEBU, Philippines — After the midterm elections last May, the Commission on Elections (Comelec) in Cebu Province will be busy again with the conduct of the voters’ registration.

The provincial Comelec office is hopeful that mall owners will allow onsite registration at their establishment for convenience of would-be voters.

Provincial Election Supervisor Atty. Lionel Marco Castillano told reporters Monday that Comelec-Cebu province will start their registration on August 1 and will end on September 30, 2019.

“Karon, we (COMELEC officers) are preparing for the August 1 to September 30 nga (voters’) registration,” he said, adding that they will also cater to voters who have transferred residency, or changed their status aside from the new registrants.

Castillano said on these dates, the Comelec offices will be open from Monday to Saturday, including holidays.

He said the voters’ registration is in preparation for the upcoming barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan elections in May 2020.

Castillano said voters who have earlier registered in the previous SK elections do not need to apply again.

“They don’t need to register tungod kay kon mo 18 sila before the May election, sulod na sila sa among voters list,” he said.

Castillano said the Comelec office is still awaiting feedback if malls will open their establishment for onsite registration.

“Mao pa na among gihuwat if we will be allowed mas maayo gyud unta para convenient sa atong mga botante.  Hinaut unta katong mga mall nga nitabang namo sauna wala pa natagam ug motabang gihapon sila namo aning panahona,” he said. (We are waiting for their feedback if we will be allowed for the convenience of our voters. I hope the malls that helped us before will still help now.) (FREEMAN)
