Cops: Bontuyan’s case will not be archived

Mae Clydyl L. Avila - The Freeman

CEBU, Philippines — The police have assured that the investigation into the murder of Police Captain Delfin Bontuyan will not be set aside.

Police Regional Office (PRO)-7 Director Debold Sinas told The FREEMAN that they understand the family’s sentiments on the death of a family member.

“We are one with the family in seeking the truth, we just ask them to be patient,” Sinas said.

The statement came after Christine Claire, in her eulogy, told the Philippine National Police that they are looking for “nothing but the truth” on her father’s death.

Sinas only asked that the family would be patient as they are digging deeper into Delfin’s case.

Meanwhile, the Mabolo Police Station that is leading in the investigation on Delfin’s death said that they are backtracking and sifting through numerous cases that the slain cop has handled in order to figure who may have a motive in his killing.

Mabolo Police Station Chief Dindo Juanito Alaras told The FREEMAN that it will take time looking into the cases one-by-one.

He also assured that this case will not be archived.

“Dili na possible na ma-archive kay ang usa sa mga direktiba sa atong regional director is ang pag-update sa mga progress sa mga kaso, especially sa mga high-profile cases,” Alaras said.

He also added that they are not affected by the statements that the victim’s daughter has uttered during the eulogy and said that they will continue to perform the investigation.

He echoed Sinas request as well to the family to be patient.

To recall, Bontuyan was shot dead by unknown assailants last May 21 at the North Reclamation Area.

He sustained 11 gunshot wounds, including four to the head.

He was laid to rest last Thursday and was honored through a 21-gun salute. — GAN (FREEMAN)
