Two cops face raps for selling firearm

Mylen P. Manto - The Freeman

CEBU, Philippines —  Criminal complaints were filed by the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group against four people, including two policemen, who were caught selling firearm online.

CIDG filed the complaints for violation of the Republic Act 10591 or the Comprehensive Firearms and Ammunition Regulation Act and Comelec gun ban against Patrolman Oliver Navarro, Corporal Redzon Baguion, Augustin Nautan, and Dennis Escaran before the Cebu City Prosecutor’s Office yesterday.

Navarro, Nautan, and Escaran were arrested in an entrapment operation by CIDG operatives last week along F. Ramos Street in Cebu City. The operation stemmed from a post on social media soliciting would be buyers of a caliber .45 pistol.

An undercover CIDG operative met up with the suspects for a supposed payoff resulting in their arrest. The police seized the caliber .45 pistol, which turned out to be owned by Baguion, caliber .22 revolver, .38 revolver, assorted rounds of ammunition, and P25,000 marked money.

Baguion was not around during the entrapment but he later surrendered to his commander at Fuente Police Station.

Fuente Police Station chief Eduard Sanchez said that Baguion’s gun has an expired license. (FREEMAN)
