The proposed underpass on N. Bacalso Avenue is beginning to take shape. Its side roads were recently opened to vehicle traffic, resulting in a “more manageable” traffic flow on the city’s southern corridor.

CEBU, Philippines — Traffic in the south district of Cebu City has improved on its third day after the side roads of the underpass project along Natalio Bacalso Avenue was opened last Nov. 24, Sunday.

The new traffic scheme is deemed effective by Cebu City Transportation Office (CCTO) Operations Chief Francisco Ouano.

“Daghan nang nalipay na giingon ani nato ang paagi,” Ouano said.

He envisions that this scheme will help students and workers alike.

According to him, the traffic is more manageable as compared to the previous days.

Moreover, he reiterated that between 6 a.m. and 8 a.m., the two lanes are opened for northbound public and private vehicles because there were more passengers coming from the south.

“ Mas dali nahubas ang mga sakyanan gikan didto sa Inayawan, Basak pasud diri sa north bound,” he stated.

Ouano added that at around 8 a.m. until the evening, the roads will be two-way.

According to a college student travelling from Bulacao, the traffic is now bearable unlike before.

Besides the side roads, motorists and commuters still have the choice to pass through alternative routes on Magallano, Macopa, Tagunol, and Cabreros streets.

On the other hand, buses, mini buses, and trucks are still not allowed to pass through the side roads and they should take the Cebu South Coastal Roads (CSCR). — MBG (FREEMAN)
