Larsian reopening stalled

CEBU, Philippines — Because some renovation works are not yet done, officials failed to reopen on Friday the Capitol-run barbecue place Larsian, the second time its reopening was stalled.

Larsian manager Joey Herrera said works are still ongoing to ensure that there will be uninterrupted water supply for the food place. Thus, the scheduled reopening on September 28, which was supposed to be the food strip’s anniversary, did not push through.

Herrera said both the management and tenants agreed to first improve the water supply system before resuming regular operations.

He said these measures aim to ensure a better dining experience for customers.

“Daghan man gud ang akong nakita nga angay pun-an. Meaning naay variance nga trabaho nga akong gi-request sa contractor to do. Mao na nga diha malangay,” he explained.

The primary variance work is the changing of water pipelines after the Metro Cebu Water District (MCWD) recommended to the Larsian management that the new water source be from an area with a higher water pressure.

“(We were) advised nga i-transfer sa Chong Hua nga side kay mas taas ang pressure,” Herrera said.

At present, the water at Larsian is sourced from the pipelines along B. Rodriguez Street where the water pressure is lower compared to the proposed new source. Low water pressure may cause water supply interruption, especially during peak hours.

“Nalangay kay we have to re-survey the assess the demands of Larsian. Unsay kinahanglan namo sa end sa Larsian og unsa puy buhaton sa MCWD,” the food strip manager said.

Herrera continued that they are currently coordinating with the Cebu City government to comply with the necessary permits to carry on their plans. The paperwork and manual labor are projected to be finished in two weeks’ time.

Aside from changing the water source, the management has also requested to the contractors to make a ramp at the Larsian’s parking area to make it friendlier to persons with disability (PWDs).

The Larsian manager assured that all works are still within the approved allocation of P1.8 million.

The place was initially set to be reopened in the first week of September, but was moved to September 28 upon the tenants’ request that it be made in time for the facility’s anniversary. —/JMD (FREEMAN)
