Six men face charges for stealing cop’s gun
CEBU, Philippines — Six individuals are facing charges before the court for allegedly causing injuries on a police officer and taking his firearm.
Prosecutor I Russell Busico held Christian Dionson, Jefferson Dionson, Ryan Fortuna, Rico Dionson, and two unidentified persons for trial after finding probable cause of robbery with slight physical injuries.
Their victim is identified as Police Officer 2 Roldan Florentino.
“In the case at bar it does not appear that the injuries sustained by the complainant were of serious in nature; rather, only slight. This is so as the medical certificates of the complainant’s did not indicate that the same would incapacitate them for work or for labor, hence, as far as PO2 Florentino is concerned only robbery with violence against person is committed,” stated the resolution.
Busico recommended P100,000 bail for each of the accused.
In his complaint-affidavit, Florentino alleged that on December 28, 2017 he went to a convenience store in Barangay Talamban, Cebu City on board a motorcycle together with Alexon Robledo.
He parked his motorcycle at the Tower Ville parking area.
From the store, they proceeded to his motorcycle but its engine failed to start.
When he checked, he saw disconnected wires. He asked a group of men having a drinking spree if they saw somebody destroyed his motorcycle.
He also asked if they knew a mechanic in the area.
Ian Paul Cabarrubias, who is already facing a case in court, told Florentino why he is asking when he is not a mechanic.
Robledo arrived at the parking area and told Cabarrubias that the person he was talking to was a police officer.
Cabarrubias allegedly hit the head of Florentino.
Robledo pushed Cabarrubias away from Florentino.
Cabarrubias’ companions ganged up on Florentino and hit the police officer with an empty bottle.
Cabarrubias took Florentino’s 9mm Glock 17 Pistol loaded with 16 bullets.
Later, Cabarrubias surrendered the firearm and was arrested. (FREEMAN)
