CEBU, Philippines —  A man was killed while two others were injured after a bus hit another bus and a multicab along the national highway in Barangay Calongcalong, Toledo City, yesterday morning.

The fatality was identified by the police as Renato Cagang, 48, a resident of Compostela town and the driver of the multicab, while those injured were Renato Encabo, 49, a resident of Tuburan Cebu; and Jayson Bacaro, a bus passenger.

Senior Police Officer 3 Jemelon Cotmaya of the Toledo Police Traffic said their investigation revealed that the passenger bus driven by Rudy Manus was travelling to Balamban when it suddenly swerved at the center of the road.

The rear portion of the bus hit the driver’s side of an approaching bus and also the multicab of Cagang parked beside the road.

“Sa pag-brake ni Manus kay nibabag sa tunga sa kalsada ang bus niya unya ang ulahi ani nga parte kay naigo ang driver nga bahin sa padung nga bus unya naigo pa g’yud ang multicab nga naa sa daplin,” Cotmaya said.

Cagang, who was fixing the multicab, was crushed inside it.

“Mura og gibola ni ang driver sa sulod,” Cotmaya added.

Cagang was immediately rushed to the hospital but did not make it there alive.

Encabo, who was standing outside the multicab, suffered minor injuries, as did Bacaro who was one of Manus’ passengers.

Manus is now under the custody of the Toledo Police station while waiting for charges for reckless imprudence resulting to homicide, physical injuries, and damage to property to be filed against him. — BRP (FREEMAN)
