For calling Hubby’s paramour a ‘whore’: Woman nabbed for online libel

Mae Clydyl L. Avila - The Freeman

CEBU, Philippines —  For calling her husband’s alleged paramour a “whore” on her social media account, a married woman from Bohol was arrested for online libel.

The woman was apprehended by police officers in Purok Uno, San Pedro Bingag, Dauis, Bohol Tuesday afternoon.

The identity of the complainant, who hails from Cebu, and the suspect, who is from Bohol, are withheld by The FREEMAN to observe police protocols.

She was arrested by virtue of a warrant of arrest issued last December.

Chief Inspector Leo Dofiles, chief of the Anti-Cyber Crime Group in Central Visayas, said the incident was filed in February 2017.

The suspect is tempo-rarily detained at the Dauis Municipal Police Station.

Bail was set at P10,000 for her temporary liberty.

“Fortunately, na-locate ang accused diri sa address nga iya (complainant) gihatag. We served the arrest warrant, right now she is in the custody of the Dauis Municipal Police Station,” Dofiles said.

He added that this is the first arrest for online libel in the region.

Based on the details of the case, the accused found out that her husband has been allegedly living together with the complainant.

“Mga baboy kayo! At binahay mo pa talaga sa mismong bahay niyo, Kakunchabo pa nanay mo, at buong pamilya mo. Kahit saan pa kayo magtago, wala na kayong kawalan samin. May anak ka na kumabit ka pa sa may asawa…Retokada’t ambisyosa. A whore, bitch, “read the transcript of the case that was posted publicly in the woman’s social media account.

There were other posts defaming the alleged paramour’s character.

Dofiles said it was not clear if the woman and her husband are already legally separated.

However, he stated it would have been a better course of action if the suspect filed a case against her husband and the alleged paramour instead of resorting to publicly humiliating the alleged paramour through social media.

“Ang information ang husband is seaman or abroad and naa kapuyo diri sa Cebu.  Bisan tinuod man guro nga naa siya kapuyo iya na lang unta gifile-an og kaso ug dili nalang mag-post sa Facebook or social media,” Dofiles said.

He advised for everyone not to overstep the bounds of the law, even in the cyberspace as it is equally foul in reality.

“Again ato warning sa netizens, dili ta padala sa emotions.  Dili man absolute ato katungod.  Naa pud katungod ang pikas.  Daghan na ta na file-an online libel, but mao ni first time nga naa ta na-arrest for online libel,” he said. — GAN (FREEMAN)
