CEBU, Philippines — Three wanted persons, including a candidate for barangay kagawad in the coming barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan elections, were arrested in Toledo City and in San Fernando, Cebu.

Siarem Ebeza Yumol, 27, who is running for kagawad in Barangay Subayon, Toledo City, was arrested Wednesday based on a warrant of arrest for qualified theft issued by Regional Trial Court Judge Hermes Montero on March 23. No bail was recommended for her temporary liberty.

Toledo City Police chief Superintendent Mina Domingo said that the case was filed in Mandaue City by the company Yumol worked with and the warrant was just forwarded to them.

She added that they received information regarding the presence of the suspect in the area, but she was using a different name.

"Duon nakita ng taohan ko nga yung ginamit nya na pangalan ay iba. Pero na-trace din ng mga tao ko na iisang tao pa rin," said Domingo.

Yumol allegedly worked as a cashier in a car company in Mandaue City.

Provincial election supervisor Lionel Castillano said that candidates with a warrant of arrest are not disqualified from the elections.

The law requires the candidate to be convicted for a minimum of one year before they can be prohibited to run. Yumol is now detained in Toledo City Police Station.

Another wanted person, Jose Rodrigo Barluado, 42, was also arrested by the police in Barangay Matab-ang, Toledo City. The suspect, who is a resident of Barangay Puting Bato, Toledo City, is charged with frustrated homicide.

Domingo said they confiscated a .357 magnum revolver with six live rounds of ammunition and three packs of shabu from Barluado’s possession during his arrest.

“Considering yung kaso nga nya is frustrated homicide so talagang we are expecting may baril siya,” Domingo said.

Barluado is reportedly one of the drug personalities in the area. According to Domingo, the suspect tried to resist arrest but eventually surrendered.

In San Fernando, another wanted person was arrested for reckless imprudence resulting in homicide yesterday morning.

Alvin Palis Carbajosa, 29, resident of Barangay Sangat, San Fernando, was arrested in his residence based on a warrant of arrest issued by Municipal Trial Court Judge Alwen M. Paque in San Fernando.

Meanwhile, a man was arrested after stealing a cellphone worth P10,000 from three minors in Barangay East Poblacion, Naga City, Cebu. The suspect was identified as Christian Jude Go Dela Cruz, 24.

According to Senior Police Officer 1 Renato Masangcay, the victims were tending to their sari-sari store when the suspect came and broke into the store.

The minors refused to give the cellphone but the suspect allegedly threatened to kill them. The suspect, however, was arrested by the concerned bystanders while trying to flee. — Patricia Faith T. Santillan, STC Intern and Chelsey Gaile B. Lapingcao, CNU Intern/FPL (FREEMAN)
